Paint manufacturer: What is water-based paint? What are the advantages and disadvantages?

In home decoration, many families choose to use paint when decorating walls. Faced with a variety of coatings, many people are struggling with their choices. Therefore, today the paint manufacturer will introduce one of them - water-based paint. So, what is water-based paint? What are the advantages and disadvantages?

1. What is water-based paint?

Water-based coatings refer to coatings that use water as a solvent or dispersion medium. It has the advantages of saving resources, no pollution, good protection and corrosion resistance. However, the water-based paint has a large water content, and it is easy to freeze without paying attention to heat preservation during transportation. And because there is water, it is easy to breed bacteria, so pay attention to anti-corrosion and mildew prevention. Mainly used in automotive coatings, metal coatings and interior and exterior wall coatings, it has been widely used in many fields.

Second, the advantages of water-based coatings

Coating manufacturers said that the whole life cycle of water-based coatings from the source of raw materials to production and application is conducive to the healthy development of the environment. It not only replaces the volatile organic solvents in the production process, but also cleans the coating tools with water, reducing the consumption of cleaning solvents. The production of organic solvents needs to consume fossil materials, which is a challenge to funds under the current situation of tight funds. The emergence of water-based coatings solves this problem. At the same time, the reduction of solvents greatly reduces the emission of volatile organic compounds during production and application, making a positive contribution to improving the surrounding atmospheric environment. On the other hand, only a small amount of low-toxic alcohol ether organic solvent is used, which reduces the volatilization of organic solvents, greatly improves the environment of the workplace, and is beneficial to the health of workers.

3. Disadvantages of water-based coatings

Coating manufacturers pointed out that although water-based coatings are superior to solvent-based coatings in terms of environmental humidity and underlying water content, they are not as suitable as solvent-based coatings in other aspects. Due to the large surface tension of water, it is difficult to wet the substrate, and shrinkage cavities are prone to occur. There are also high requirements for the cleanliness of the raw material surface during construction. There are also certain requirements for the humidity of the spray booth. When the relative humidity of the environment is above 85%, the surface drying is slow, and the water solvent cannot evaporate normally in the saturated humidity environment. When the humidity is too high (above 90%), the coating film on the coated object will flow down. Therefore, the painting room should have good air circulation and maintain proper humidity.

Coating manufacturers said that in the future, water-based coatings urgently need to carry out basic research to reduce the construction difficulty of water-based coatings and improve performance. At the same time, it will also promote its application and development by paying more attention to policy guidance, technology promotion, changing ideas, and eliminating the public's prejudice and concerns about water-based coatings.

What is the role of "water", an important component of water-based coatings, shared by coating manufacturers?

Water is colorless, transparent, odorless, non-toxic and harmless, and is ubiquitous. The freezing point is 0 and the boiling point is 100, so water-based paints should be kept above 0. Water, chemica
